Lotte World Aquarium Ticket

Lotte World Aquarium opened in 2014 and holds about 55,000 creatures of some 650 species across 13 themed zones, roughly 3,500 tonnes of water in total. The route follows an ecosystem: fresh water first, then river to coast, coast to open sea.

The main ocean ecology tank is the reason the aquarium exists. It holds around 2,200 tonnes, the 85-metre tunnel runs through it, and you meet the same tank twice — once from inside the tunnel with sharks and rays overhead, once from the escalator that descends past the glass, which is the shot almost every reviewer takes. A July 2026 visitor: "the variety of sharks and the underwater tunnels are incredible".

Around it: Penguin Village, a ray zone, sea lions, otters, interactive touch pools and a jellyfish gallery lit for photographs. Feeding sessions run around midday, with the shark feed after them — the one worth waiting for, according to the same reviewer.

How long it takes

One to two hours at a normal pace. The listing says one to three; a reviewer who timed it called the aquarium "not very big, but very entertaining" and put it at an hour or two of exploring. Add time if you stay for a feed or if you hit the tunnel at peak hours, when it moves at the speed of the slowest phone.

Because the aquarium is smaller in floor area than COEX and the tanks are larger, the visit feels denser rather than shorter. If you only have time for one Seoul aquarium and you came for marine life, this is the one.

Lotte World Aquarium's standing adult admission is ₩37,000, with a child rate of ₩33,000 and the same price applied from age three upward on this listing. At ₩1,380 to the dollar on 27 August 2026, the $19.79 ticket is about ₩27,300 — roughly ₩9,700 below the gate, or 26%. The retail figure the platform crosses out, $23.89, is closer to what other resellers charge.

That is a genuine saving, and it is the opposite of what happens at COEX, where the resale price merely matches the aquarium's own online rate. If you are booking both aquariums on price alone, this is the ticket that earns its discount.

What you pay for it is flexibility. There is no cancellation window: no refunds, no changes, no rescheduling once the booking is confirmed. A cancelled Seoul day means a wasted ticket. If your itinerary is still moving, either take the refundable COEX ticket or hold both aquariums on the Klook Pass, which is free to cancel while unactivated.

Booking platforms describe a "Beluga Zone" and "beluga whales" in the plural. There is one whale, and she is alone.

Bella arrived with two other belugas when the aquarium opened in 2014. One died in 2016, the second in 2019. After public campaigning — the Free Bella campaign became one of the best-known animal-welfare stories in Korea — Lotte World Aquarium publicly promised to move her to an overseas sanctuary by 2026.

That has not happened. The transfer plan was judged unfeasible this year, no sanctuary placement has been secured, and discussions with facilities in Iceland and Canada continue without a date. She remains on display in a solitary tank.

We are not telling you to skip the aquarium, and we are not pretending we would enjoy standing at that particular window. We are telling you what is behind it, because the listing will not.

The aquarium is at 300 Olympic-ro in Songpa-gu, on the basement level of Lotte World Mall beneath Lotte World Tower. Take Line 2 or Line 8 to Jamsil Station and leave by Exit 11; an underground passage connects the station directly to the mall, so you never surface. Coming from the Lotte World theme park, the mall is a short indoor walk.

At the aquarium, go to the Admission Group Ticket Booth to swap the mobile voucher for a paper ticket, with your passport. Then you are in.

The complex holds Seoul Sky, the observatory in Lotte World Tower, and the Lotte World theme park — which is why so many people do the aquarium as half a day rather than a trip of its own. If that is the plan, the Klook Pass covers the aquarium and Seoul Sky in one purchase.
